How To Fix Windows 10 Start Menu and Microsoft Edge Without Rebooting

Fix for Start Menu, Window 10, Microsoft Edge.     This works for me.
Every Time.

All of the nonsense articles stolen & reposted about doing handstands atop elephants with your big toe firmly ensconced betwixt your teeth are ridiculous.

Please try this first, before wasting your valuable time.

Short & Sweet

  • bring up the Task Manager

  • click the “Details” Tab

  • click “status” twice

  • one at a time, End Task all the Suspended Items

  • after each End Task, click the Start Menu to check if it’s alive yet

    • there are several culprits that randomly take turns being the root of the problem
they are Borg, you will respect

Specific, Expounded Upon for your wordly pleasure

  • bring up the Task Manager

  • have no fear
I promise you will not be able to permanently break anything – MS knows about people like you fixing your own problems behind their backs.

    • bring up Task Manager – keyboard-style:
(for the tech-savvy “old-school knows the fastest way” kids)
      • ctrl+alt+del
      • press dnArrow til Task Manager is highlighted
      • press Enter
    • bring up Task Manager – mouse-style:
      • right-click your broken start menu icon – surprise surprise it works backwards but not forwards
      • click ‘Task Manager’
    • touch-style:
      • touch+briefHold your sad little broken start menu icon
      • obtain consent
      • touch ‘Task Manager’ in a gentle loving way
  • click the “Details” Tab
    • yes on the Task Manager Window, if you have somehow landed on Mars, please contact Elon Musk ASAP – we will all be amazed with the Cosmos Time-Space discovery
  • click “status” twice
    • this sorts the S’s up top
    • p.s. make sure you scroll to the top of the list, where you just told all the S’s to go
    • if you still see no S’s, leap from your chair in a disgusted rage and resort to articles previously dismissed as nonsense
      • and write me a nasty comment about how much you love S’s and how I made them disappear and that you life has been reduced to rubble as a result
      • … and how my nefarious plot has been revealed for all the world to see
      • I do so very much enjoy a good conspiracy theory
      • … be sure to include Aliens somehow; it’s always more fun when there are other-worldly creatures afoot
  • one at a time, End Task all the Suspended Items

  • after each End Task, click the Start Menu to check if it’s alive yet

    • there are several culprits that randomly take turns going into lala land and bumming your Windows 10 high
    • Windows 10 is smart, it will magically start them back up again for you, fresh & happy like an extra life in a video game.
    • It seems that whichever culprit is gumming up the system at the time is affecting all problems listed below. But life isn’t always as it seems. Your experience will inevitably vary. You are not I, and I are not Thee, but The Beatles told us to “come together right now, over me” which we can, and ask “why are you under us? Are you some sort of Alien Mole Race living below the Mantle?!
    • “End Task” by:
(no, of course I didn’t forget about you! I wander wildly, but always return to you, my dear reader.)
      • right-clicking on the Name of the suspended task
      • selecting End Task
      • option: you can also select End Process Tree if that makes your heart sing with joy and bliss and all good things in the galaxy
      • option: or, if you find yourself smarter than me, just click the handy “End Task” button show below
      • oh dear me no, that is an image – please click on the one on your Task Manager Window – I promise it will work much better that way

Problems This Fixes For Me

Unresponsive Start Menu

Unresponsive Search Icon on the Toolbar

Clicking on the Toolbar Date stops displaying the calendar

Camera App gets stuck loading

Edge gets stuck loading

Start Menu, Window 10, Microsoft Edge

I have no earthly clue why Microsoft refuses to acknowledge or fix this problem.

And If I ever get my hands on the human running Microsoft Answers, they will get an education on taking valid user complaints, recognizing them as bugs, and getting them report to the amazing people who love to fix bugs. Process is important.
